Verse of the Day

“[A church divided over leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

1 Corinthians 1:10

Seed

Some time ago, an ancient Egyptian tomb was discovered – inside the tomb were various artefacts. Among them was some seed. The seed had been inside the tomb for many hundreds of years and had remained there undisturbed. Someone decided they would take the seed and plant it. To their amazement, it grew. It grew exactly as it would have done all those years before had it been planted.

So what’s the point? The point is, we are like that seed. Each one of us carries within us the God given potential to do great things. We have the ability to grow correctly, to become useful and bring forth good fruit. The problem is that just like the seed in the tomb, the potential within many of us lies dormant.

You see, the potential wasn’t removed from the seed. It was there in the beginning and it remained there. The problem was where the seed was placed. It simply wasn’t in the right place for it to germinate and grow. It wasn’t planted in good, fertile soil. It was in a dark place – a place where little if any light got in. There was no water available for the seed. In such circumstances the seed was dormant. It was “asleep”. Getting the picture? We too need to be positioned in the right ground in order to begin our process of growth and development. We need to be planted in “good soil”. We need to be fed regularly with the word of God and watered with the Holy Spirit in order for us to “germinate”. We need to be in the light, not the darkness. When we are in such a place, how can we fail to grow and bring forth fruit?

Consider the potential that is within you, and what God can do with you when you, like the seed, are in the right conditions.
